Why Am I Doing This?

At one point, when I was 25, I was at least 70 pounds overweight. I ate too much, I drank too much. I was out of control and it took toll on my body and spirit. I have always been overweight, but my early twenties was the rock bottom for me. I saw photos of myself at my brother's wedding and I said "THAT'S IT." I had to change. My father and his family were all large and suffered from the problems weight brings--diabetes, heart disease, bad joints, sleep apnea and depression. I didn't want to walk that same road.

I started watching The Biggest Loser two years ago. In the last two years, I have lost sixty pounds. It's taken me time, but I've proven to myself that I can keep it off. I have forty pounds left to go and they have been the hardest to lose. The Biggest Loser inspires me to eat healthily and stay active, which can be hard when I'm stressed out from school. Losing weight, while actually very easy in theory, is incredibly hard when you are faced with stress and emotional blocks. Life as a 1L is hard enough!

My partner in crime is my friend Jeremy, who I spend a fair bit of time with. Jeremy doesn't actually need to lose weight. He's active and healthy. But I asked him to help motivate me and help me make the right choices. I'll see if I can get him to let me take a photo of him to put up here with me. So we're not in this to win any grand prizes, just to get me to my goal.

Tri Training

I registered to do the Chicagoland Danskin Women's Triathlon on July 13th.

I've been casually training, but tonight I set up my actual training plan and am going to put it into full swing.  So between studying for finals and training, I'm going to be TIRED this Spring.  But for good reasons.

I've got my first tri-suit and I still need to go out and get a road bike.  My brother offered me his to train on and use for the tri if all else fails, but my intention is to use my tax rebate toward a decent bike.  Until then, I will have to plan on spending a lot of time at the school gym.

I've also been training to beat my boyfriend in arm wrestling!  I'm going to have to be able to at least use 25 pounds on each arm.  Right now, I'm at 15.  I'm hoping to be at 20s by mid-April.  The most amazing thing is that I have ARMS now.  With real muscles in them!  I need to work on my core and endurance.

I'm at a 11:40 mile currently.  I want to get down to a 10 minute mile.  I want to be able to run a 36 minute 5K.  I want to finish my tri in 100 minutes.

Crap, I'm exhausted already.  But I love it because it feels so good.

Good Riddance!

I was happy Ali came back.  Good for her doing so well at home.

I'm TIRED of Brittany and Maggie's attitude.  They have done NOTHING but complain for the last several weeks.  Maggie constantly slags the blue team for their team spirit.  Yeah, you know what, it may seem like a high school football team to you but guess what.  Their strategy WORKS for them.  Which is more than I can say for you.  Or for your former purple teammate Jenn.  They are so damned negative that they are squandering their valuable time at the ranch.  I once thought Brit would be cool, but then she got to be a real b**ch about four or five weeks ago.  Amazingly, I like Mark a fair bit more than Brit at this point.

So I'll be glad to see one of them go home next Tuesday.

GOODBYE!

I bought a heart rate monitor about a month ago and I love the thing.  It helps me so much.  It actually motivates me!  I also bought that silly water bottle that tells you how much water you have left to drink.  So far, it seems to be doing its job well.  It's almost stupid how much something so simple is so motivating, but whatever works, works!

I've lost 60 pounds so far since Fall 2005.  I've lost 10 so far in 2008.  I promised myself that when I get down to my healthy weight range, I will take myself on vacation to lie on the beaches in a bikini.  I'll get there yet!  Even if it takes me another two more years!

Other ways of looking at it

I was getting really frustrated when my weight wasn't dropping at all these last few weeks.

But then I measured my waist.

I've lost two inches!  Plus, half of an inch around my hips.

I want to lose two more inches around my waist and I will then have a healthy WTH ratio!

Struggling

The last few days have been tough.  I'm retaining water from my period and I haven't had a lot of energy.  Plus, I had a fight with a loved one that drained me.  My calories have been high, but I haven't eaten more than my AMR.

It's just really frustrating to do so well and then have it all sort of implode.  Next week should be better.  I should hopefully continue to see the rewards from my work.
